Devon at Manning Park

From Devon (still rocking his Orion Plexi Jacket): "Manning Park didn't get much for recent storm snow till the night I arrived at 2:37am when it started dumpin and dropped a good 25cms of fresh that stayed untracked for the first day while it snowed for most of it. The 2nd day saw about another 20 cms then opened to sunny skies! And mixed in here's a couple shots of what I got up to today practicing a crevasse rescue and the day before working on ski guiding pointers. Busy busy, but enjoying it."

Catching up with Devon

Got a solid day at Silver Star where their park was getting set up and I started my jumping with some carving 3's that went corked so I decided to get the Contour out and film a couple; put a bit of hot sauce on my carve and stomped cork 5's for the rest of the day with some fun jibs to fill in my need for "jibbin" for a while. The following weekend I got a few hours after my shift at my home of Phoenix Mountain to lap the park. We were waiting for the snow to get a solid park set up but now that it's here, we're all done. Stoked! Kids are going to be pumped and our park jam will go down with some sweet features once again for this season

Had my Assistant Guide shift at Baldface last week where we scored some sweet waist deep pow and smiling faces; BUT took it smart and rode "lightly" and cautiously as the avalanche danger jumped quickly with the fast accumulations and a weak layer down under the storm snow of 50-70cms in spots. Things are settling down but I'll keep checking into the snow conditions and see what it's doing when I get to unknown spots.

Baldface Lodge has been killing it with snow in the area being in the right spot this season. I'm fortunate enough to get to shred with some awesome guests and have great mentors as an Assistant Ski Guide. I ski at the back of the pack making sure everyone has made it safely down, enjoys their day and most definitely scored some fresh lines in the White Room. I've included some shots there as well as a shot of the run Supernatural took place on called Scary Cherry and a shot of the lodge.

Phoenix has been the spot for quick sunny laps lately and we've got enough snow to set up a sweet jib line in our park with fun wedges to come. Been spending my days off at Baldface here working hard and getting a sweet goggle tan since our pow days was just a few days ago.

Finished up a sweet trip in Revelstoke, Kicking Horse, and Fernie. Kicking Horse had some sweet lines that got slayed and good snow...edit to come.

My days off I'll be searching for some turns to earn out around Nelson in the backcountry around there enjoying the pow a lot more than park this season. I still enjoy my jib time to note ;)

That's a wrap for my latest month of happenings. Season's going too quickly! Ahh!

Cheers,
Devon Smith
